The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected calls for the re-ordering of the sequence of the 2023 general elections. The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC, Festus Okoye disclosed this on Sunday. A civil society group, Conference of Civil Society of Nigeria, had on Saturday called on the commission to re-order the election sequence. The group said the 2023 polls should start with the governorship elections, and not the presidential election as contained in INEC’s timetable, noting that the re-ordering of the election sequence is necessary to avoid any disruption that might arise from the conduct of the presidential poll. A Twitter user with the username: @kamaldeyforyou has accused some police officers in the Adeniji area of Lagos of arresting him and his friends illegally after finding sex toys with one of them during a search. He also alleged that the officers of refused to return to them two of their bracelets worth N500,000 each after their release and return of their luggage. Moghalu A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu , has given reason for his support of the bank’s recent decision to redesign naira notes. In a series of tweets, Moghalu said the CBN is trying to gain control over money supply in the economy. He noted that while the move may not stem inflation, it is “necessary step.” “I fully support the Central Bank’s redesign of the Naira,” he said. “If 80% of bank notes in circulation are outside the banks, that’s troubling. The CBN obviously wants to force all those notes back into the banking system. Nnamdi Kanu The Appeal Court, Abuja has granted an application by the Federal Government for stay of execution on its judgment dismissing charges against leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu . The appellate court suspended its judgment execution of the judgment, which had ordered the federal government to release Kanu on Friday. Justice Haruna Tsanammi who gave the directive, equally instructed that the Supreme Court receive the decision’s outcome within seven days for a prompt hearing. With this ruling, Kanu, will remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) until the Supreme Court hears the matter. Ayade Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has presented the 2023 budget proposal of N330billion to the state House of Assembly. In his presentation, the governor said the document christened “Budget of Quantum Infinitum,” was targeted at ongoing projects in the state. He stated that N130 billion or 39 percent of the total budget has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N200billion or 61 percent of the budget set aside as capital spending.
