A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday, barred the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from arresting and detaining the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, over allegations of terrorism and sundry offences against him. Consultant nephrologist, at Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja, Ade Faponle, has disclosed on Wednesday that Nigeria has only 250 specialists in the area of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Faponle revealed this in Ilorin during a paper presentation at the 2022 Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin (ARD-UITH) branch while speaking on: “Kidney Protection: Evolving and Emerging Threats – Call to Action”. The specialist decried the insufficiency of CKD specialists in the country, adding that they are not enough to man the growing number of people with the disease in the country as reported by News Agency of Nigeria. The leadership of all Igbo town unions have been advised to use this year’s Christmas and New Year to address the issues of insecurity and frequent sit-at-home that have ruined the economic and social life of the South-East region. Giving the admonition, Ohanaeze Ndigbo urged them to talk to the youths in their various communities about the need to embrace hard work and shun get-rich-quick attitudes. The group in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, said it could not understand how the South-East region which was the most peaceful, suddenly became an area associated with only crimes and violent activities. The Osun State’s Assets Recovery Panel has directed former governor Gboyega Oyetola, his wife, Kafayat Oyetola and other former appointees to immediately return assorted vehicles valued at N2.9 billion presently in their possession. Oyetola and some officials allegedly took away various models of vehicles without any legal basis for such action. As of today, there is no law that authorises any elected or appointed officials to go with state vehicles after completing their tenure of office.
