Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police. The Zazoo crooner was arrested on Friday after the 72-hour ultimatum given to him by the Ogun State police command expired. Recall that the singer was handed a 72-hour ultimatum by the police to report himself to the nearest police station after he was captured in a viral video resisting arrest by operatives of the force. Timipre Sylva has reportedly resigned as the Minister of State for Petroleum to seek the ruling All Progressives Congress ticket in the upcoming governorship election in Bayelsa. According to sources who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, Sylva reportedly handed his resignation letter last week to President Muhammadu Buhari, and stopped coming to the office. The Lagos State Health Commissioner, Prof Akin Abayomi said 52,652 tuberculosis cases were recorded at the national level in four years. Prof Abayomi said 11,723 cases were captured in 2019; 10,150 in 2020; 13,499 in 2021; and 17,280 in 2022. Abayomi disclosed this on his Instagram handle @ProfAkinAbayomi on Sunday. He said Lagos state accounts for 11 per cent of TB cases in Nigeria with an estimated 54,000 persons projected to be suffering from TB, based on the National Incidence Rate of 219 per 100,000 population. A commercial driver, identified as Taiwo, reportedly assaulted nurses at the Mother and Child hospital, Oke aro, Akure, the Ondo state capital, with cutlass, over the death of his five-year-old son. A 43-year-old man, Abiodun Oladapo, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly impregnating his 19-year-old daughter. A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday sentenced four men to death by hanging for armed robbery and kidnapping of a woman identified as Mrs Gloria Emole. The convicts – Victor Chukwunonso, Ifeanyi Maduaka, Obinna Nwankwo, and Richard Nwabueze – were sentenced for armed robbery and the kidnapping of a woman, Mrs Gloria Emole. Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The convicts were said to have committed the offences on November 19, 2012, at about 8.30 am. They were arraigned on July 13, 2013, and were remanded in prison custody. Former Minister of Education and supporter of the Labour Party (LP), Oby Ezekwesili, has slammed the chief spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, over his recent petition against LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his vice, Datti Baba-Ahmed. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reacted to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the suspension of the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, over allegations of anti-party activities. Wike, while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, argued that the party’s NWC does not have the power to suspend Mr Fayose, nor refer Mr Ortom to a disciplinary committee. The governor also faulted the decision of the NWC to summon the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, to appear before a disciplinary committee for a similar allegation of anti-party activities.
