Ayo Adebanjo: If Based On Merit, Only South-East Will Produce Presidents

Ayo Adebanjo Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo has stated that if the office of the presidency was based on “merit”, only candidates from the south-east will hold the office “till kingdom come”. Adebanjo said this on Monday in his remarks at the ‘Greater Nigeria Conference’ organised by the Nzuko Nmunna, an Igbo think-tank. The focus of discussions at the conference was on the need to support a candidate from the south-east in the 2023 general election. Adebanjo stated that it’s the turn of the south-east to produce the next president in the interest of fairness and equity. APC The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will begin the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms on Tuesday. A source in the APC’s media office in Abuja confirmed the development to newsmen on Sunday. It was gathered that the exercise, which was scheduled to begin on Saturday, was postponed due to some logistics and administrative challenges. This is coming four days after the party fixed the fees for the nomination forms — presidential hopefuls are expected to pay N100 million while those for governorship will pay N50 million. Bandits Kidnap Lecturer, Daughter In Kaduna

A former Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Kaduna Polytechnic, Ramatu Abarshi has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The police authorities are yet to confirm the incident, but a relative of the victim told Channels Television that the female Lecturer was kidnapped on Saturday afternoon along with her daughter, Amira, at Mariri Town in Lere local government while they were distributing some food items to some residents for the Ramadan fasting. They are reportedly trailed by the bandits to Kasuwar Magani where they were eventually kidnapped to an unknown destination. The kidnapped lecturer is popularly known for her philanthropy and peace initiatives in southern part of Kaduna State. Worshipers Injured As Church Building Collapses In Lagos State

Several worshipers were injured when a Deeper Life Bible Church, located in the Iragbo community in Badagry, Lagos State, collapsed. The building collapsed around 9 am on Sunday following a heavy storm while the service was ongoing. While details of the incident are still sketchy, an official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed to Channels Television that there were no casualties. Reports indicate that those who were badly injured have been taken to the General Hospital in Badagry for treatment. The incident adds to the rising cases of building collapse in the country’s commercial nerve centre. Last year, a high rise crumbled in Ikoyi, killing scores and injuring others. Experts have identified quackery, substandard building materials, pilfering, and faulty/non-adherence to designs among others as reasons for the recurrent cases of building collapse. Thomas Tuchel has revealed Germany defender Antonio Rudiger will leave Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of this season. Tuchel had hoped to persuade Rudiger to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the centre-back has opted to end his five-year spell with the Premier League club. Chelsea’s attempts to keep Rudiger were hampered by the British government’s sanctions on Russian owner Roman Abramovich, which included a rule that existing players could not sign new contracts. The Blues are believed to have made a contract offer to Rudiger prior to the sanctions, but the deal was never finalised after a request was reportedly made for large signing-on and agent fees. According to a statement issued on Sunday by Presidential Spokesman Garba Shehu, one of those opponents includes the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah. Following the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, his 18 wives may now be available to suitors without undergoing cleansing rituals, according to palace sources. Oba Adeyemi, 83, who died on Friday, following some treatments at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, was buried according to Islamic rites on Saturday. Although it is believed in the Yoruba tradition that the wives of the monarchs, either separated or still married are not at liberty to lay with other men until atonements have been made, palace sources told Peoples Gazette that the late Alaafin’s wives may now move on with their normal lives.
