Chinese Lover Alleged To Have Killed His Nigerian Girlfriend, Pleads Not Guilty

The Chinese national, Geng Quangrong, alleged to have killed his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari, has denied charges levelled against him before a Kano High Court along Miller Road, presided over by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji. The state counsel led by the Kano State Attorney General, Musa Abdullahi Lawal, presented the court with an interpreter courtesy of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr Guo Cumru. He said following the adjournment of the trial over the absence of an interpreter, the ministry wrote to the embassy and they availed them with one. The court therefore asked Cumru to affirm before the court to interpret from English to Chinese to the accused person. Atiku The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has advised Nigerians to elect leaders who are passionate about climate change. The former vice president gave the counsel after his visit to Bayelsa where severe flooding has damaged lives, livelihoods and property. Atiku promised to retool disaster awareness apparatus, such as Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA), to better forecast and provide warning signals. The PDP flagbearer also hinted that the Nigerian Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) should be reformed for adequate preparation and response. Assassins Kill Consultant While Police Delay Distress Caller

The Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday said it commenced investigation into the alleged murder of a consultant, Michael Adesitimi. Some yet-to-be-identified persons allegedly killed the victim, who was an Information Communication Technology consultant, at his house in the Okuta Elerinla area of Akure, Ondo State. According to PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred barely nine months after the deceased’s daughter was killed in a similar circumstance. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said the command had started investigation. She disclosed that the police met the man in a pool of blood and assisted him to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead. Nnamdi Kanu Files N100bn Lawsuit Against FG Over Prolonged Detention

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Federal Government over his continued detention by the Department of State Services, (DSS). In the suit filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, Kanu is seeking his immediate release from the facility of the DSS and payment of N100 billion in reparation for the violation of his rights to liberty and dignity of the human person. Kanu said the suit became necessary following the continued failure of the Federal Government to obey the judgment of the Court of Appeal, delivered on Oct.13, which discharged him of the terrorism charge brought against him. The originating court process, filed by Mr Mike Ozekhome, SAN, on behalf of Kanu, dated Oct. 21 has the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1945/2022. Court Orders FG To Return Nnamdi Kanu To Kenya, Pay Him N500m Damages

Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, has ordered the Federal Government to pay the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the sum of N500 million as damages following his illegal abduction and human rights abuse from Kenya. The Court also ordered the FG to return the IPOB leader to Kenya from where he was extradited to Nigeria on June 19, 2021. The Court presided by Justice E. N. Anyadike, insisted that the extradition of Kanu from Kenya without recourse to the legal process was a flagrant abuse of his fundamental human rights. He held that the respondent failed to disprove the claims of the applicant that he was arrested, blindfolded, tortured, and chained to the ground for eight days in Kenya before his extradition to Nigeria. Kanu, through his special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had approached the court challenging his extradition from Kenya on June 19, 2022. The German government has prepared the path for the legalisation of cannabis, but it is still uncertain whether the proposal would be approved at the European level. According to the plan approved by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Cabinet, cannabis and the active substance tetrahydrocannabinol would no longer to be legally classified as narcotics. “The purchase and possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis would be exempt from punishment. “Private cultivation would be permitted to a limited extent and sale to adults in ‘licensed specialist shops’ and possibly also pharmacies would be possible,” the plan stated.
