Multiple winner of global athletics records, Tobi Amusan has been announced as a brand ambassador for a digital telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom. Born April 23, 1997, Amusan, an indigene of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State is the first Nigerian champion in a world athletic event to win the gold medal in the100 meters hurdles event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal. Coup Leader Ousts Burkina Faso’s Military Government Over Rising Islamist insurgency

  Captain Ibrahim Traore of the Burkina-Faso army has announced on national television on Friday night that he had overthrown military chief Paul-Henri Damiba Traore added that he had dissolved the government, in the country’s second coup in eight months. According to Traore, a group of officers who assisted Damiba in seizing power in January resolved to depose him because of his incapacity to handle the escalating Islamist insurgency. Damiba ousted former President Roch Kabore for the same reason. The constitution has been suspended and the transitional charter dissolved, borders are closed indefinitely and all political and civil society activities are suspended, Traore said. Manchester United duo of Marcus Rashford and Erik Ten Hag won the September Premier League Player and Manager of the Month award respectively. LAWMA Rescues Day-Old Baby In Polythene Bag Dumped In Garbage

Officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have rescued a day-old baby from a garbage in Ikoyi, Lagos State. This was confirmed on Twitter on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Lagos State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin. According to Mr. Hundeyin, LAWMA officials went to the Ikoyi police division on Thursday around 10:00 a.m. to file a report about the baby’s discovery. “The officials reported that they were on their routine duty of moving waste around the Ikoyi area when they discovered the newly born baby wrapped in a polythene bag. A police team led by the divisional crime officer rushed to the scene,” the police officer explained. NSCDC Recovers 21,000 Litres Of PMS In Badagry

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recovered 21,600 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, from suspected oil vandals in the Badagry, Lagos. Reports reaching our correspondents disclosed that during a patrol on Tuesday night, the marine and anti-vandal team of the Badagry division seized 720 kegs filled with 30 litres of petrol each. Our correspondents further disclosed that the raid happened around Yafin creek, as the suspected vandals were about to smuggle the fuel to neighbouring Benin Republic. The vandals were also reported to have fled when they got wind of NSCDC’s presence in the area. The 78th Annual General Assembly (AGM) of the Nigeria Football Federation and its Elective Congress will hold on Friday, 30 September 2022 in Benin City, Edo State, the NFF announced on its official website on Thursday. DSS, Vigilante Group Arrest Soldier ‘Supplying Guns To Kidnappers’ In Abuja

Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested a soldier attached to the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Tungan-Maje in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for allegedly hiring out and selling guns to kidnappers. The Labour Party and its supporters are not to congregate at the Lekki toll gate for its #Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally scheduled to take place on October 1, 2022, according to an order by the Federal High Court in Lagos. The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, and Inspector General of Police Usman Baba were both given instructions by the court to make sure the ruling was followed. The order was made today by Justice Daniel Osiagor in response to a motion for injunction filed by ten plaintiffs. The postponement was revealed in a statement signed by the Director of the exams board, Orunsolu Adebayo, on Wednesday in Lagos. Submitted SARS Panel Final Report Recommends Dismissal Of 25 Policemen, Prosecution Of 28 Others

The independent investigative panel on human rights violations perpetrated by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Nigeria Police and other force units has submitted its final report to the National Human Rights Commission. The final report formally accused 72 police officers of their involvement in human rights violations. The report recommended the prosecution of 28 police personnel and the dismissal of 25 officers. It also advised that disciplinary action be taken against 15 police officers while four personnel be demoted. The Nigerian government established the panel to look into cases of human rights abuses perpetrated by police officers in the country. After two years of investigations, the panel said, it received 295 petitions and decided on 95, while the petitioners withdrew 54 petitions and 33 of them were struck out. Military Retirees Block Access To Defence Ministry Over Unpaid Allowances

Military veterans under the umbrella of the Retired Members of Nigerian Armed Forces and the Coalition of Concerned Military Veterans staged the third phase of their protests over the non-payment of their Security Debarment Allowance, among others, at the Ministry of Defence, in Abuja on Monday. The protesters, as a result, blocked access to the Ministry of Defence located at Ship House on Olusegun Obasanjo Way in the country’s capital city. FG Orders Vice Chancellors To Reopen Universities For Lectures Immediately

The Federal Government, through the National Universities Commission, has ordered vice-chancellors to re-open schools and allow students to resume lectures. This was revealed in a letter signed by Sam Onazi, the Director, Finance and Accounts of the NUC, on behalf of Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the commission’s Executive Secretary. Keyamo Festus Keyamo , spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, has expressed that pastors should stop dabbling into politics. Keyamo said this in reaction to recent comments from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). In an interview with TheCable, David Bakare, deputy national secretary of the PFN, added that the group had no affiliation with members of the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria who met with Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, on Friday. The PFN also said its opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC remains unchanged. Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Keyamo stated that the PFN has no right to criticise the decisions of the ruling party. Northern Bishops Who Met With Tinubu Are On Their Own, Says PFN

Tinubu and clergymen The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has stated that it has no affiliation with the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria. Clergymen belonging to the group had met with Bola Tinubu , presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday in Abuja. Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, his running mate, are both Muslims — a development that has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians. Groups such as the PFN and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have also condemned it. In an interview with TheCable on Sunday, David Bakare, deputy national secretary of the PFN, said: “There is nothing in PFN that is regional based like southern or northern pentecostal bishops.” The PFN, according to Bakare, is a branch of CAN, adding that the opposition to the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket has not changed. “The meeting between Tinubu and the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria has nothing to do with the PFN,” he said.
